Previewing Liverpool's January Transfer Deadline Day 2016

Will Liverpool get in on some hot transfer action now that it's February and the last day of the mid-season transfer window?

It's back and there's a little twist for Liverpool fans. This will be Jürgen Klopp's first taste of the deadline day madness in English football, but will there be a late signing or two on the very last day of the transfer window? Despite having a whole month to complete a deal, clubs seem to be inspired by the prospect of catching the attention of Twitter and the reserved Jim White. Liverpool have made two additions, but a loan signing for defensive depth and signing a hot prospect before sending him back where he came from doesn't quite capture the imagination for some. Rumours about interesting Bundesliga midfield and striking targets for the summer just can't satisfy the most thirsty among us.

So, who else will join Steven Caulker and Marko Grujić? Alex Teixeira could have been the big statement and surprise of the transfer window in English football, but FC Shakhtar want too much money and way way too much money. The attacking midfielder would link up with a sizeable Brazilian contingent at Melwood, which would presumably help Teixeria feel more at home. It seems that there is no deal when the Ukranian side claims that a summer move is the only option left for a player who is key to the club's remaining efforts this season. John Barnes, however, thinks that it's not over yet. Watch this space.

A Real Madrid winger has popped up again on Liverpool's ever-discerning radar. It's Denis Cheryshev everybody! TLO sources have led us to believe that a move could be on the cards, because the legendary Zinedine Zidane said so. If Cheryshev could head to England, will Liverpool strike a permanent or loan deal? This is quite a new development, but it's fresh transfer news fodder that should tide you over until another rumour comes along. He's also left-footed, which will please some fans eager for a bit of balance in Liverpool's attack.

Joel Matip was linked with a move in this window for a fee or for free at the end of the season. A possible mid-season move has been dismissed as "a hoax" by Schalke 04's chairman, and combined with the short-term signing of Caulker, only a Bosman move will be possible for the Schalke 04 central defender. No other players have been strongly linked with a move to Anfield, and for those who are worried, Shane Long will be staying where he is. Although Klopp doesn't seem eager to spend money frivolously in the spirit of Arsène Wenger, a surprise could happen from existing links or elsewhere.

As for outgoing transfers, there's unlikely to be much beyond the odd loan and seeing what happens with Jerome Sinclair. The Reds have reportedly blocked a move to Watford FC where the youngster would link up with the prolific Odion Ighalo and the talismanic Troy Deeney. Has Liverpool's youngest-ever player refused to play for the under-21s in a bid to preserve himself for a move? Has Liverpool's propaganda machine taken aim at a player who has done little wrong? Perhaps the honourable Aidy Ward has the real story.

How will it all end? Only Fowler knows, but until the deadline has passed, we'll be covering all and any slither of information from the vast interwebs. Expect nothing but be prepared for everything.
