Daniel Sturridge is a hell of a striker. He wouldn’t look out of place leading the line for any team in England, even Liverpool, where he is no longer first-choice in most games. The fact that he’s no longer our first choice has led to a flood of unfounded rumor mongering. The likes of West Ham, Stoke, and even Top 4 rivals Spurs have been linked with a January move, and now AC Milan is a name circulating the Interwebsphere.
The latest AC Milan rumor comes courtesy of Italian tabloid CalcioMercatoWeb, a publication with no connection to Liverpool. The Serie A side are having a better campaign than in recent years, currently sit third in the league, 5 points back of table toppers Juventus.
As discussed previously, a January transfer probably doesn’t make a lot of sense for Liverpool. Although Sturridge has yet to get off the blocks in the league, he has 4 goals in the League Cup, and has looked threatening when given the chance, including in his last outing against Watford. It would also be curious for Sturridge, who has struggled at Liverpool with a terrible injury record, to want to leave during his first healthy run in several years. Moreover, this Liverpool side represents his best chance of winning silverware this season.
Liverpool don’t need the money. Sturridge still has a significant role in the team (even if it is not as significant as he’d probably like). And this latest rumor is from a less than reliable source. But it’s out there, so there’s that.
