Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet signed a five-year contract this week that keeps him at the club until 2021, but a poor display against Norwich City heaped further pressure on the out-of-form shot stopper and invited the rumor mongers to continue their search for his eventual replacement. The newest replacement candidate is Kasper Schmeichel, who starts in goal for surprise league contenders Leicester City.
The Mirror reports the 29-year-old goalkeeper is wanted by Liverpool with a transfer enquiry recently made. However, Leicester City rebuffed the approach, insisting they had no intention of selling Schmeichel while in the heat of title race. Manchester United are also said to be eyeing him, but no move has been made on that front.
It makes zero sense for either side to agree on a deal for Schmeichel at this point. For Liverpool, the decision to re-sign Mignolet means a renewed commitment to him through the end of the season. Meanwhile, Leicester City have no reason to sell one of their most important players in the midst of the best season in club history. Next.
