When Allan Rodrigues de Souza returned to Liverpool following a successful loan spell with SJK of the Finnish Veikkausliiga, it was always a question of when and where and not if he would be heading for the second half of the season due to delays in getting his English work permit finalised.
Today, Liverpool have confirmed his destination: Sint-Truidense of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. Allan was rumoured to be heading to Sint-Truidense, currently sat 10th in the 16-team league, last week, and so today’s official news serves as an expected confirmation. Allan will join the Belgian side immediately.
Sint-Truiden face off against Westerlo on Satruday before facing heavy hitters Anderlecht and Standard Liege. Allan was signed from Internacional last summer for £500k after impressing Liverpool’s youth coaches at a friendly tournament. He made eight appearances and scored twice while on loan with SJK.
The young midfielder played mostly as a deep lying playmaker in his native Brazil but took on a more advanced, attacking role at SJK. His flexibility should help with ensuring he can get game time in Belgium over the next few months and could prove valuable once he returns to Liverpool in the summer.
Allan said earlier in the month that Liverpool expect he will be able to secure a work permit in time to play for Liverpool next season.
