Dortmund Blocking Defender's Transfer to Liverpool, Per Report

In recent weeks, Liverpool have experienced an unbelievable rash of injuries, and the tough spell has torn through an already thin defensive unit. Manager Jürgen Klopp resorted to starting Jose Enrique as a center back against Exeter City in the FA Cup on Friday, and a move to add defensive help via transfer could be imminent.

That help will not come in the form of Borussia Dortmund center back Neven Subotić, according to the Mirror. The report states that the 27-year-old defender, who has fallen out of favor with his team, will have a potential loan move to Liverpool denied by Dortmund. The reason for this decision (which stands as a reversal from recent reports that a loan move would indeed go through) is Dortmund that wish to capitalize on Liverpool's lack of depth by asking for more money from Liverpool, which will derail negotiations.

However, if one believed in the Subotic rumors in the first place, the latest report from the Mirror should not derail hope of a move. The defender simply does not play anymore for Dortmund and it would be unwise for the German club to miss the opportunity to give him a shot at regular first team action while rebuilding his confidence. Therefore, this link remains something to keep an eye on going forward.
