Liverpool FC Transfer Rumours: Reds Target Valdes Deal

Last season, Liverpool were said to be in for almost every decent goalkeeper on the continent, as the team searched for a back up to Simon Mignolet. Victor Valdes, who played for Barcelona at the time, was one of the first names mentioned in this search, but when he opted to sign with Manchester United, hope of him coming to Anfield disappeared. However, ESPNFC reports that Liverpool are considering a move for Valdes after seeing him fall out of favor with Louis van Gaal.

While Valdes' toxic relationship with United has been pleasing for Liverpool fans, it's unlikely that he'll ever come to Liverpool. After an ACL injury suffered in March 2014, Valdes has made only two league starts, and it's hard to gauge his skill level at this point in time. At his peak he was an excellent goalkeeper worthy of challenging Mignolet for his starting job, but at 33 he might not be the same player anymore.

Liverpool also signed Adam Bogdan over the summer, and Brendan Rodgers seems happy with Bogdan as Mignolet's back up. Valdes was once a realistic transfer target, but at this point it would be surprising to see Liverpool make a serious move for him.
