José Enrique Reportedly Prefers Sunderland Move

Sources in the Midlands have reported that the defender's preference for a move to Wearside is discouraging the West Brom camp.

This is your deadline day superstar. Gather 'round him. José Enrique is back in the headlines for Liverpool, and he's today's most popular transfer track. West Bromwich Albion seem to be backing away, expecting an inevitable rejection, and the reason for that is José Enrique is believed to prefer a move to Sunderland.

There are many reasons for Enrique to reject West Brom. Sebastián Coates and Fabio Borini may be more challenging FIFA and table tennis players than anyone in the West Brom squad. Tony Pulis may have implemented a selfie ban at the Midlands club, which may be off-putting compared with Dick Advocaat's more relaxed approach. Footballing reasons might be in play of course, but really, why on earth would they be for a player more known for off the pitch antics than football in recent years?

Some interesting developments on the Jose Enrique situation - with sources in the Midlands claiming that West Brom are becoming increasingly concerned that they might miss out on the full-back because he would prefer to join Sunderland. The Baggies thought they had their man earlier this morning, with Liverpool happy to move on Enrique, who moved to Anfield in a £7m transfer from Newcastle in 2011.

This was the Northern Echo's take on developments, and "hopes are rising" for Enrique. Hopes. Even rumoured hopes for Enrique is a moral victory for the 29-year-old.  This is a player who has been injured, cast aside by Liverpool, and in a loop of incessant non-footballing activity. The magic of deadline day continues.
