West Brom confirmed earlier today that they’d agreed a fee with Liverpool for the services of young Rickie Lambert. With a medical scheduled for Friday, it wasn’t necessarily a done deal that the player would get confirmed before the weekend, but the Baggies confirmed the signing on their official Twitter page shortly before the end of the business day in England.

It’s a bittersweet move for both Lambert and Liverpool fans. Signed only last season for the small sum of £4m, Lambert was quickly embraced by fans who loved the romance of the signing. A former Liverpool youth player cut by the club at the tender age of fifteen years-old, Lambert’s transfer was seen as a coming home of sorts, proof that the dream of playing for your boyhood club can come true even if you take a circuitous route to get there.
Unfortunately, the results never came on the pitch quite the way they did at Southampton. Lambert made 36 appearances across all competitions last year for Liverpool, mostly as a substitute, scoring three goals and two assists along the way.
Good luck at West Brom, Rickie!
