Brendan Rodgers has assembled a solid midfield in his time in charge of Liverpool, and this season's unit figures to be one of the strongest of his tenure. Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, and Adam Lallana are all exceptional options in the attacking midfield, while Jordan Henderson and James Milner give the team loads of energy in the middle. There's also depth (outside of the defensive midfield), as Emre Can, Lucas, Joao Carlos Teixeira, and Joe Allen will get playing time.
None of that is enough, according to the Metro. Apparently Liverpool are going "all out" to sign Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko. The transfer fee? £17 million.
This might be the most ridiculous rumour of the summer just because of how little sense it makes from any angle that you approach it. For starters, Sissoko is not a player that Liverpool need -- he's a versatile box to box midfielder and would therefore be redundant alongside Henderson and Milner. He's also a player that has expressed a desire to play first team football for a Champions League side, and neither of those aspirations would be fulfilled with the Reds.
Also £17 million? For Moussa Sissoko? Good one.
