30-year-old center back Ashley Williams, who has played for Swansea City since 2008, was a rumored Liverpool transfer target a couple of years ago when Brendan Rodgers first arrived at Anfield. Williams has seen an uptick in form in recent weeks, and the Mirror reports that Liverpool are again interested in obtaining his services.
Williams signed a three-year contract extension last summer, but the Mirror speculates that this will not be an obstacle in Liverpool's reported pursuit of the player.
At this time, this particular rumor seems unlikely to materialize. Williams is a relatively cheap and experienced center back, but Liverpool already have similar qualities in Kolo Toure, who the club is attempting to re-sign according to reports. Furthermore, Williams likely means much more to Swansea than he ever would to Liverpool, which could make potential negotiations extremely difficult.
It's hard to see Liverpool signing a center back this summer who isn't young with the potential to become a star (or is a top class player already). Therefore, a move for Williams this summer would be unexpected, although it is certainly a rumor to keep an eye on going forward.
