Liverpool have officially confirmed their first deal of the day, with the club reporting that 17-year-old winger Sheyi Ojo has been loaned to Wigan Athletic for the remainder of the season. The Championship side will hope the talented youngster can make a difference, as they are currently in the midst of a relegation battle.
Whatever happens for Wigan in that battle, that experience along with regular playing time should prove useful to Ojo’s further development, and a loan at some point over the next year or two was always likely. The winger arrived at Liverpool from MK Dons in the summer of 2011 for an undisclosed fee and is one of the most promising players currently in the Liverpool Academy.
Though the U21 star has not yet made a first team appearance for the Reds, he was named to the matchday squad by Brendan Rodgers twice this season in games against Burnley and Leicester City. He has also represented England at the youth level.
