One of the more intriguing rumors that Liverpool have been attached to since the summer has been those involving MK Dons midfielder Dele Alli. The 18 year old English youth international has been drawing massive acclaim for the League One side in the last year and a half, and through 27 league matches this season he's scored a whopping 12 goals, drawing comparisons to a young Steven Gerrard along the way.
Many Liverpool fans hoped that the club would add Alli to their impressive crop of younger players either this month or next summer, but alas, that's not to be: Alli is signing with Tottenham Hotspur according to pretty much every major media outlet in England, with the only major step left to be taken at this stage being putting pen to paper on a deal with an as-of-yet undisclosed transfer fee.
It's a disappointing miss for Liverpool, who certainly could have used a goalscoring midfielder of Alli's potential. Especially with Gerrard departing after this season, the club finding a way to bring in Alli and help him reach his potential was something a lot of fans were hoping to look forward to. Losing him to a direct rival in the Premier League makes the news hurt even more.
Still, best of luck to Alli in the future of his career. Just, you know, not against Liverpool.
