What Do Liverpool Fans Want for Christmas? A Fullback or a Striker or…

Depending on who you ask, Liverpool need reinforcements at fullback, centre half, defensive midfield, wing, striker, and in goal. It’s a lengthy list. We want to know what it is you think they need most.

Many Liverpool fans will be caught up in the various merriments of Christmas over the next few days. As football fans, though, whether or not they’re celebrating Christmas, the real excitement may just be reserved for January 1st, when they’ll be hoping there’s something shiny to unwrap.

With Liverpool facing a depth crisis at centre half, a misfiring group of strikers, and having all of two senior fullback options, the only question is which shiny new footballer the fans are most hopeful arrives at the club when the transfer window opens—or, failing that, at least not so very long after it does.

As such, we want to know which position you want Ian "Santa Claus" Ayre dropping a player off for at the club. And also now that we’ve figured out Ian Ayre is Santa in this we’d like to apologise and admit we may not have fully thought through the repercussions of doing this whole Christmas thing.

Still, Liverpool would seem in desperate need of strengthening at a fair few positions—and following Martin Skrtel’s injury, there have been rumours the club is pushing to bring Joel Matip in straight away rather than next summer in response. Is that Liverpool’s most pressing need, though, or is there another?

Is it fullback, where the club have Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno backed up by kids and the ghost of Jose Enrique? Is it at the base of midfield, where there’s only Lucas suited to the holding role? Is it the wing, where Ibe is the only natural wide player? What about in goal? Or is striker the biggest problem?

The last might be the most controversial place to look for reinforcements given Christian Benteke cost £32.5M over the summer and was meant to be the Premier League proven option who could slot straight in. Only he’s failed to do that, Danny Ings has gotten injured, and Daniel Sturridge still can’t stay fit.

The rest are situations that are a little more straightforward and mostly issues of depth that many Liverpool fans have been worried about for some time. But which position of need—be it a need of depth or starting quality—does Liverpool need most? Leave your vote and, if you’re so inclined, your thoughts.
