Agents say the darnedest things. And usually, whatever it is they're saying, it's going to seem poorly timed and annoying to a club's fans. Such was the case when Liverpool left back Alberto Moreno's agent was asked about the chances of his client moving to Real Madrid on Spanish radio this week.
"If Real Madrid were to make an offer that would make him happy, but Liverpool would have to want to make the move," Javier Moya told Radio4G when asked if Moreno could end up with the Spanish giants. "If a team as important as Madrid were to speak with us and Liverpool were satisfied with the deal then we could talk."
In fairness to Moya, he doesn't actually say much that's all that objectionable. Having been directly asked about the chances of Moreno ending up at Madrid he says such interest would flatter his client but that it would be up to the two clubs to make a deal that Liverpool would have to be satisfied by before anything would happen.
Fans might rather hear a non-comment comment that says Moreno is currently a Liverpool player and he's not going to speculate about the future. Still, there was nothing about Moreno wanting the move or Moya pushing for it, simply an acknowledgement that for a Spanish player, it would be hard to ignore interest from Madrid.
"Inquiring about a good player is natural; it would be normal," Moya added when further pressed on the issue of a potential move. "Important teams in Spain and other places will ask, and so it can be difficult. And everyone here knows the importance of Real Madrid. But Liverpool have five European Cups."
Madrid have been rumoured to be watching Moreno since he broke through at Sevilla, but given their current left back situation—Marcelo is 27 years old and has a contract running through 2020 while Fabio Coentrao was loaned out with the player upset by his lack of minutes—it's hard to see where he would fit.
Still, there have been rumours linking Moreno to Madrid off and on for long enough that they're not likely to stop any time soon. And if they actually did end up showing real, concrete interest in the player, he would be flattered by it. Beyond that, there's nothing much to see here.
