Unlike Brendan Rodgers, who used three-man midfields regularly while manager of Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp is a double pivot tactician. This means that he asks a lot of the two players stationed in the middle of the pitch, requiring them to drive the team forward and control a match.
Many have wondered if Klopp will look for an improvement on his in-house midfield options in January, and the Mirror cobbled together an attention grabbing rumour: 29-year-old Claudio Marchisio of Juventus for £23.5m.
In case you don't follow Italian football much, Marchisio is an all-word midfield magician who does just about everything pretty well. SB Nation's Juventus blog describes Marchisio as "Juventus' most important midfielder."
He's one of the most important players of a perennial European powerhouse that just lost Andrea Pirlo and might lose Paul Pogba in the near future. He's going nowhere.
But it's harmless to dream if you're into that sort of thing, and what a dream a Marchisio-infused Liverpool midfield would be.
