The Week in Search Terms: Lionel Messi Is a Loser

New, comments

Transfers, t-shirts, old movies, and Messi. These are some of the ways people have found their way to The Liverpool Offside lately.

People find their way to TLO using all kinds of search terms. Some of them can seem a little strange, unusual, or just in need of an answer. Others seem to have nothing at all to do with Liverpool. Occasionally they’re borderline workplace-appropriate. Here are a few of them.

club world cup qatar dates

Liverpool weren’t even sure there’d be a Club World Cup when they won the Champions League on June 1st, but there is and it’s in Qatar and, I mean, it at least has to be more interesting than the Community Shield and League Cup? Plus it’s just two games and Qatar isn’t that far to fly—plenty of players head there for a quick break when they get a chance in-season and Liverpool have even gone to the region for mid-season camps.

So. The Club World Cup. It’s actually happening, and it’s in Qatar, and it runs from December 11th through to the 22nd—but for Liverpool, what matter are the semi-finals when they join and then the final. Those dates haven’t been confirmed yet, but if the final day is the Sunday the 22nd, that means the semi-finals are likely to be on Wednesday the 18th or Thursday the 19th, and so far we know four of the seven entrants.

Along with Liverpool, hosts Al-Sadd and Oceania’s Hienghene Sport will be there from the start. In the quarter finals, CONCACAF champion Moneterry join along with either Wydad Casablanca or Esperance de Tunis of the CAF—plus the AFC Champions, who won’t be decided until November. Then, Liverpool and the South American champions enter at the semi-final stage.

Sorry, I’m really more of a Dapper Dan man.

messi is a loser

I mean, sure, I know he’s had a rough year on the silverware front and been knocked out of the semis in the Champions League and Copa America by a side with Alisson in goal but dude only went and had an all timer of a season with 51 goals and 22 assists in 50 total games. He had a goal involvement every 55 minutes and was involved in nearly 60% of Barcelona’s league goals. He may not of won the prizes he set out to win, but loser seems a touch harsh. But also hopefully he loses the Ballon d’Or next.

yada fc

Yadda yadda yadda and then Liverpool won the Champions League. Either that or you found us looking for Yadah Stars FC who, in case anyone else didn’t know, are based in Harare and play in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League.

They finished 14th last season, just surviving in the 18-team league that sees four sides changed each season, and with the 2019 campaign currently ongoing things don’t look great for them as they sit 16th a third of the way into it. They have one player—28-year-old defender and thrice capped for Zimbabwe Jimmy Dzingai—with a Wikipedia page. And having only learned of their existence just now, we hope that they manage to survive the drop.

how’s your bottle

I mean not great, actually. It’s kind of a cheap one—just one of those shaker bottles that gets thrown in for free as part of an order for something or other—and if I’m not really careful about lining up the threads it leaks all over the damn place when I shake it which isn’t ideal for a shaker bottle though if I’m being honest I’m a little confused why you’re interested in it still there you have it.

transfer speculation

It’s quiet. Too quiet.

joel matip real height

Tall.

wizard of oz

I was probably more into Dumbo as a little kid but it was still pretty wild to find out as an adult about that scene where the Scarecrow is holding a gun like seriously what’s going on with that and if we’re talking popular Mandela Effect talking points shouldn’t it really be The Bernstein Bears? I mean that’s obviously miles better than what we ended up with in this universe.

devil using sarcasm

I don’t know if sarcasm is something the devil’s particularly known for but having to listen to an eternity of it might get a little tiring.
