Alexis Mac Allister on “The Best Goal I Scored in My Life”

It was, as the kids say, a banger. A screamer. A cracker. A worldie. A golazo. It was un crack. Que brutal.

On Saturday, Liverpool scored four goals against Fulham in a wild, comeback 4-3 victory. All four, had they not been scored in the same match, might well have been pointed to as the goal of the month and contenders for goal of the season.

The pick of the bunch, though, might have been Alexis Mac Allister’s dipping shot from at least 25 yards out as a misjudged Raúl Jiménez clearance fell to the middle of the pitch and gave Mac Allister the time and space to line up his effort.

“I think it was the best goal I scored in my life,” Mac Allister said after the match. “As soon as I hit it, I knew that it was going to be a goal. When I play as a six I am not very worried about goals—I have other work to do. But it’s always nice to score.”

Nice to score is probably a bit of an understatement when the goal looked like the one Mac Allister scored on Sunday, but if Alexis doesn’t want to hype up his own goal to the degree it probably deserves we’ll just let the goal itself do the talking:

Next up for Mac Allister and the Reds is a rare mid-week Premier League match as they travel to face struggling Sheffield United, on just five points and widely expected to sack manager Paul Heckingbottom before Wednesday’s kickoff.

The run in to Christmas then sees them face Crystal Palace, Union Saint-Gilloise in the dead rubber Europa League group stage finale, Manchester United in the league, West Ham in the League Cup, and finally Arsenal at Anfield on the 23rd.

“We know that December and January are going to be two very important months for us to see where we are at,” Liverpool’s Argentinean midfielder added. “We want to fight, we want to win every game, and that’s what we are going to try.”
