Following an early withdrawal in Norway’s 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands a week ago, there was speculation whether Erling Haaland would be able to recover in time for Manchester City’s visit from title contenders Liverpool on Saturday lunch time. Media hands were loudly wrung, while experienced fans ignored the news, safe in the knowledge that the Premier League’s top scorer had been taken off as a precaution and would definitely be ready to go on game day.

There was little shock, then, as news dropped today that Haaland was indeed partaking in full team training with the Blues, having spent a full week in recovery and getting whatever injections would be necessary to accelerate his recovery if needed, and is thus just about guaranteed to start on Saturday.

On the bright side, there have been no new injuries for the Reds during the international break — although Pálinka-related issues may or may not impact Dominik Szoboszlai’s ability to perform in the short term — and if you disregard the early start and the away trip and the South Americans landing in Liverpool less than 48 hours ahead of kickoff, the playing field will be completely level when the two best teams in the league over the past five years face off in what has established itself as the most anticipated fixture in the competition.
