After seeing the opening of the upper sections of the new Anfield Road end delayed due to developers Buckingham Group entering into administration at the start of the season, there is some good news to report with a partial opening set for historic rivals Manchester United’s December visit.
The club officially announced today that pending a certification test, around half the new stand will be ready to welcome around 3,000 fans for the United match on December 17th. That additional capacity would also be used in subsequent matches against West Ham United, Arsenal, and Newcastle.
The Newcastle match is set for January 1st, which had been the previous date the club had targeted for an at least partial opening of the new Anfield Road end. Following the safety test, ticket sales for the additional seating will commence with priority given to those who previously held tickets.
In the meantime, work will continue on getting the entire new stand completed, which will take the capacity of Anfield to 61,000. While no date has been set by the club it at least seems promising that the stand is now set to be at least partially opened ahead of the revised schedule.
