When Kostas Tsimikas was left out of the lineup for Greece when they took on France in their final Euros qualifying match on Tuesday, there was some understandable concern that it might signal the Liverpool left back had picked up an injury.
With Andrew Robertson out and Manchester City on Saturday, that would have been a potentially significant problem for Jürgen Klopp. However, it appears that Tsimikas was in fact held out due to his yellow card status and Greece’s faint Euro hopes.
That’s the story according to This is Anfield’s David Lynch, who points to the fact that Greece knew they could not qualify no matter the results in the final group stage games and have turned their focus to qualifying via the Nations League.
Tsimikas is one game away from a suspension in international play and leaving him out on Tuesday in their 2-2 draw against France ensured he will be available when Nations League play resumes and they take on Kazakhstan in March.
