After having to fight so hard to get included in the squad, fate handed Trent Alexander-Arnold a cruel twist as he pulled up injured in England’s pre-European Championship warm up game against Austria.
He’s not getting too down about it, though.
“It’s disappointing for me not to be there but at the end of the day”, Alexander-Arnold told BBC Sport, as reported by the Daily Mail. “It still puts a smile on my face seeing the lads go far, the nation getting behind them - the supporters everywhere have been amazing.
“To know all the lads and a do few weeks with them, they’re going to do us proud.”
Speaking of his recovery, the right back explained that “every day is a new step, getting better and fitter and going into pre-season good. I have a few weeks of rest and then hitting the pre-season and trying to push on from there.”
The best news is that Alexander-Arnold looks to be fine for the start of preseason. Crisis averted from a Liverpool perspective. For now, he should just stay focused and get ready to hit the ground running next season. Last year was an up and down one for him, with some really good work at times overshadowed by high profile defensive errors. With Virgil van Dijk returning and Ibrahima Konate arriving, he should have a better platform to really do his stuff.
Next year can be an excellent one for Alexander-Arnold.
