Normally, we would have known Liverpool’s pre-season schedule months ahead of time. This past year and a half, though, has been far from normal, and with Europe just starting to emerge from the coronavirus pandemic we’re only now getting our first confirmed dates.
The Reds began their pre-season preparations today in Austria, with all players who didn’t participate at this summer’s Euros or Copa America reporting in. Along with that, the club have confirmed three dates—and four opponents—they will now face while in Austria.
First up on Tuesday, July 20th, the squad are set to play a pair of 30 minute warm-up friendlies behind closed doors, first facing off against second division Austrian side FC Wacker Innsbruck at 5PM BST and then playing Germany’s VfB Stuttgart at 5:45PM BST.
On Friday, July 23rd they face Jürgen Klopp’s old club FSV Mainz in Grödig, Austria, with 3,500 tickets being made available. Their final match in Austria is then set for Thursday, July 29th against Hertha Berlin, this time in Innsbruck and with 15,000 tickets available.
Following that final match, the Reds are expected to return to England for their final two weeks of pre-season preparations—likely including three more friendlies—before kicking off the 2021-22 Premier League season against Norwich City on Saturday, August 14th.
