It wasn’t the best news when Trent Alexander-Arnold pulled up with a pretty horrific knock in England’s friendly against Austria.

It ruled him out of Euro 2020 pretty much straight away. But the good news is it looks as though the injury isn’t too bad to affect his preseason preparations. David Maddock of The Mirror reports that Liverpool “are confident Trent Alexander-Arnold will be fit in the time to start pre-season training on July 12.

“There were fears the problem was so acute he could miss the start of the new season for his club.

“But after returning to Anfield for assessment by Liverpool ’s own medical team, those worries were eased, with doctors suggesting he will be sidelined for around a month.”

Crisis averted. If Liverpool want to get back to the standards set in 2019/20, Alexander-Arnold will inevitably be absolutely vital to this. With Ibrahima Konate arriving and the other centre backs returning to full fitness, he should be able to better rely on them for cover and get back to doing what he does best.

2021/22 could be a huge season for Trent.
