Mohamed Salah is one of the few players this season who can say he’s delivered at Liverpool.
While almost everyone else has suffered a dip, Salah has scored more goals this time around than last season. He’s alone in the front three in terms of keeping a high level of scoring up.
He’s also maybe not the future of the side at 28 years old. There might be another world in which Liverpool cashed in on him for a lot of money, but the pandemic has made that very difficult. Nonetheless, with two years left on his contract, it’s notable he doesn’t seem close to signing a new deal. In fact, he claims he hasn’t even been offered one.
“No one is talking to me about that, so I can’t say much about that”, Salah told Sky Sports.
“No one in the club is talking to me about anything so I do not know.
“I said before that I want to win the Premier League again, I want to win the Champions League again.
“It’s a great thing to win, I’m just trying to win it again and again. Part of our job is to win trophies.”
What’s going to happen? To be honest I don’t know. It seems unlikely that he’s going to be offered a big money five year deal now. At the same time, I can’t imagine the club willingly letting him leave for free in two years’ time. So is he going to go this summer or next? Sign a weird rolling deal to protect his value. I don’t know, and I don’t think even he does.
