The hits keep on coming. The official timing partners of Liverpool FC, TRIBUS, have pulled out of a partnership deal with Liverpool, after the club’s cowardly European Super Scrooge McDuck League plans were announced on Sunday. Their statement reads:
As official global timing partners of Liverpool FC, and a family of dedicated and lifelong fans based in the city of Liverpool, TRIBUS (Watchmakers) Ltd cannot support the move by the clubs’ owners to break away into a new competition, The Super League.
Our values are at the forefront of everything we do, therefore we will be withdrawing from this partnership.
Football belongs to the fans and unites us all; it was never intended to benefit the few.
Why the super strong reaction? As hinted in the release, although the watches are made in Lugano, Switzerland, the company was actually founded by three brothers - Jonathon, James and Jake Ward, from Merseyside. The company had made the Champions Edition watches you may have spotted while doing post-title win shopping on the club store. They also partner with Brentford FC, in case you were looking a less morally-ambiguous TRIBUS partnered team to support.
