Roberto Firmino and Ozan Kabak, who both missed Sunday’s match against Fulham, will be available for contention against RB Leipzig. Liverpool’s center-back curse hit Kabak after playing only a few matches, and he missed a handful of games. Firmino, on the other hand, only had a knock that kept him out of the squad.
Liverpool’s next big challenge will be to not throw the lead they have against Leipzig in order to make it to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The Bundesliga side currently trail Liverpool 2-0 after the Reds knocked home two goals in the first leg. Liverpool fans will remember that match as the last time we felt any sort of happiness.
The game will take place this Wednesday evening, so there’s very little turnaround for Liverpool for a very, very bad week.
The game, though technically a “home” match for the Reds will actually be played in the neutral venue of Budapest. This is a result of Germany’s (entirely reasonable) Covid travel restrictions which would have required the Leipzig players to all quarantine for two weeks after they arrive back home from England.
At this point, anyone returning from injury is good news, even if it’s likely not going to be the silver bullet that we’re all hoping for to turn this season around.
