Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian was key to the club’s 2019-20 successes, backstopping the Reds to their first trophy of that season in the UEFA Super Cup and filling in ably for Alisson Becker in the league when the first choice stopper was injured to start the season.
His second season at the club, though, has seen the 34-year-old drop behind youngster Caoimhin Kelleher in the pecking order and so it’s no surprise that he is expected to move on in the summer when his contract expires. The question seems not if but where.
According to Spain’s Fichajes, at least, the answer to that question is easy: if Adrian has his way, he wants to join Real Betis, the club he grew up at and played for until he joined West Ham in 2013. Now, he wants to return to Betis and finish his career in his hometown.
Currently, Betis have Claudio Bravo as their first choice, but with the Chilean set to turn 38 before the end of the current season there is said to be a belief at the club that a new goalkeeper will need to be brought in this summer—and Adrian seems to fit the bill.
It’s the kind of transfer rumour that even in the lack of anything especially concrete at least appears to make sense for everyone involved, and it would not be especially surprising to see Adrian head home to Sevilla and Real Betis this summer.
