After a series of disappointing results, Liverpool pulled out a 2-0 win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. The next game they have to look forward to is a visit from Chelsea. Liverpool sit one point behind Chelsea, and a win could boost their top four prospects going forward.

Gini Wijnaldum hopes that their victory and clean sheet will provide them with momentum to get past Chelsea as well.

“I think it’s a good thing if you win a lot in a row, but I think this is a good one to stop the losses that we have had before. I think this is really good for the team and it gives a good feeling again [ahead of] the next game and also [lifts] our confidence,” Wijnaldum told the official site.

Though Alisson sat out the match against Sheffield United, Liverpool and Adrian still managed a clean sheet. This was especially heartening given the Reds’ defensive injuries and problems over this season.

“That’s also a good feeling for those guys and for the team. It gives us confidence because the last few games we’ve conceded a lot of goals so that will help us as we look towards Chelsea next. Hopefully we can get a winning streak.”

The Chelsea match will be the 27th of the season, so the Reds are running out of time to pull their season together and clinch a top four spot and a place in the Champions League next season. Depending on the result of West Ham’s match, a few lucky breaks could see Liverpool jump into the mix by this time next week.
