Jürgen Klopp on Liverpool’s Season: “People Have Written Us Off. That’s Fine”.

Better mood after a good win against Sheffield United.

Liverpool beat Sheffield United 2-0 in the kind of routine win that has been forgotten in recent months. Just turn up, be better than the opposition, and take all three points.

Curtis Jones scored a really well worked strike in the second half, before Roberto Firmino got a big helping hand from a deflection to double the Reds’ lead. It’s all good stuff, and the manager finally had reason to be pleased.

“The plan was to keep going and do the same stuff again. When we could play like we wanted to play, they couldn’t deal with us”, BBC Sport report Jürgen Klopp as saying.

“Sheffield United have lost a lot but all by the smallest margin. It’s clear these games stay exciting until the very end. We could have scored three in the first half. What we created was very good. The finishing was good enough for today, but we can improve.

“It’s normal that we’re criticised, people have written us off. That’s fine.

“[Curtis Jones] is a top player, that’s why he’s playing. He has to be involved more in goalscoring situations, like everywhere there is space for improvement.”

“[Firmino] had a goal, who cares? For him it counts, if it’s not in the stats, I don’t care.

“This was about us showing we’re still there. We play Chelsea on Thursday, we have to show it again. We have to win football games, we know that. There’s no way into the Champions League without results. Tonight we got it, we keep going.

“Everyone who sees Sheffield United playing knows you have to work really hard against them.

“We created an awful lot and should have been 3-0 up. Andy Robertson could have had a hat-trick.

“The clean sheet is very important. Adrian showed pure class and character. I’m really happy for him. He was very front-footed. That was a really good game.”

Liverpool can hopefully finally show a degree of rhythm from this game. They’ll need it.
