It’s hard not to feel morose after the dark winter that Liverpool have struggled through. After leading the league at Christmas, the form of the Reds has cratered as their injury problems caught up with them.
As hard as it is for us, it must be worse for the players who are out there playing the games and Klopp, who never shies away from taking responsibility for his team’s losses. However, Roberto Firmino insists that despite the downward trajectory these past few months, Klopp never falls into recriminations or negativity.
“He is never negative,” Bobby said. “He’s never let our heads go down, he’s always been motivating the team, letting us know what we are capable of, what we demonstrated last year and for us to look ahead. He knows what we can achieve.”
Firmino further lamented the injuries that have ravaged the team and put many of his teammates out of commission for most of the season.
“It was a great loss to our team to lose three great players in Virgil, Joe and (Diogo) Jota before Joel as they are all players who contribute a lot and show what they’re capable of. But we’re not negative about this,” Firmino repeated.
“We always aim to think about the players available in the squad and look to do our best with the players we have. Always thinking positively, believing in our potential and what we can achieve.”
The season marches on. There’s still plenty of time for Liverpool to get their mojo back, even if the push for a second league title in a row is beyond them. They are still in the Champions League, and they have to keep up the fight for the top four.
