Ozan Kabak got his first taste of Liverpool glory when he started in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory against RB Leipzig. In an empty stadium, the event lacked the usual raucous atmosphere of a proper Liverpool European night. However, Kabak won’t mind at all. The young defender joined the team last month, and was thrilled to come away with his first win.
“It was so special for me because this was my first clean sheet and my first win in this jersey,” he told the official site.
“I’m a new player, I’m a young player and there’s a lot of stars here. I need a little time to adapt here and with time I will be better I think. I think we played very well and we gave everything on the pitch. We won all challenges in midfield and I think we deserved to win and I’m so happy.
“Leipzig are a really good team and second in the Bundesliga table but I think we controlled the game very well. First half we had a lot of good opportunities and second half we scored because of their mistakes – but we already had it under control.
“I think it was a really impressive game from us.”
After a series of poor performances, this game felt like a breath of fresh air. And confidence couldn’t come quick enough. It’s Merseyside derby time this weekend. The last thing Liverpool want to do is drop points against their Blue neighbors.
Victories and clean sheets have been few and far between for Liverpool since Christmas, but hopefully this win helps to usher in a happier spring.
