At times it wasn’t pretty on Friday when Liverpool defeated a weakened Aston Villa side to advance to the next round of the FA Cup. However, given the current form that the Reds find themselves in, watching our forward players score again was like a balm to the soul, even if it was only the in the third round of a domestic cup.

James Milner, who played at left-back to give Andy Robertson a much deserved rest, hopes that they can use keep pushing on after persevering in this game.

“[...] We’re getting into areas but not getting the right final ball, the right run,” Milner admitted. “That’s been the story of the last few games as well, so it’s good for us to work on that and we need to keep improving. You can never fault the effort of us but at times things aren’t quite coming off at the moment and we need to keep working hard. You saw the attitude of the boys – they’re pushing hard to put things right.”

Despite some lackluster performances and bad results, no one is doubting the effort that the players are putting into every match. Their commitment to Klopp and the team has been clear, even as things have failed to click on the pitch.

Every slump in form under this manager has been temporary, and a win next week against rivals Manchester United would be a strong way to kickstart another good run of results in the new year.
