It’s been a month since the 2019-20 season ended. A month since Liverpool wrapped up a campaign that saw them win their first league title in three decades. Nobody at the club has been talking about that since returning for pre-season two weeks ago.

Instead, the focus has only been on what comes next. On preparing for the next game, the new season, and trying to win another piece or two of major silverware. That according to Jordan Henderson, at least, and really we shouldn’t be at all surprised.

“We haven’t spoken about it,” the Liverpool captain noted during a break in training earlier this week. “We’ve been cracking on, really working hard. New season, new start and a lot more things we want to go on and achieve. Another big season for us.

“Hopefully we can take confidence from the last year or two but we need to stay hungry and keep the desire to go and want more. You’ve got to look at the players in the squad and the manager as well, it’s always about looking forward and wanting more.”

This group, largely unchanged, won the 2019 Champions League and the 2019-20 Premier League. They’ve spent two years now at the very highest levels of English and European football. There’s no question they belong—they just need to stay focused.

It will be a difficult task, and nothing is guaranteed, but given the drive and professionalism this side have shown they have no shortage of, you wouldn’t want to bet against them being able to carry their recent stellar form into a third consecutive season.

“I think that’s just natural to us now,” Henderson added. “We’ve always looked at the next game as we always see it as the biggest one and that 90 minutes we give everything to win. Pre-season is no different, you know you’ve got to train hard to be ready.

“We’ve got to be right at it come that first game and we’ve got another chance to win silverware. After that, the Premier League starts pretty quick after that as well, so you need to be ready, as you do in every season. As I say, by the looks of it, we are.”
