Sometimes football fans are terrible. Let’s not sugar coat it. Spend 30 seconds on Twitter, and you’ll learn that. Sometimes football fans are terrible, but then sometimes, when all the stars align, they vote for Sadio Mané as their Player of the Year.
Mané picked up the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year award for the 2020-21 season, after having another monster of a season up front with Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
In response to winning the award, Mané sent a message to the fans who voted for him.
“In part of football it’s no secret, you just need to push yourself always and try to work harder than you did before,” he told the official site while training in Austria.
“I was really happy and I want to say thank you to all the fans around the world who voted for me. It has been an amazing season for me and my teammates and I’m really happy and really honoured to win this.
“The only thing I have to say, I want to say again, thank you. There has been so many amazing players who made a great season but they voted for me. I just want to say thank you again and I will push myself harder to be a better player.”
If there is one player who deserves to have his awards case collapse from the weight, it’s surely Mané, who is magnificent, the very definition of a team player, and seems like a good man to boot.
