With their 3-1 victory over Brighton in the books, Liverpool have 30 victories in the Premier League, and with it a new record—another for this runaway title-winning side—for earliest matchweek a club has hit that mark.
Thirty victories after 34 games. Ninety-two points with a chance to hit 104 if they win out. Not that they’re focused on the records, at least according to Alisson Becker.
“Sometimes we don’t even know that we are breaking records and we only know when [the media] tell us,” the Liverpool goalkeeper joked following Wednesday evening’s match. “It’s nice of course but it’s not what we are looking for.
“We are looking to give our best on the pitch and then the victories come, the records come—and the most important thing is we are champions.”
At the end of the day, those records serve as footnotes that highlight just how dominating a side this Liverpool have been—and not just this season, but last season as well when they finished second with 97 points, the third-highest points total in Premier League history.
The important thing, though, is that title. And one doesn’t imagine there’s a Liverpool fan anywhere who would argue with Alisson on that point.
“We just want to keep doing what we love, what we have passion to do—play football, really good football and enjoy the games that we have,” he added. “We just want to be focused on the next match, fighting for the three points.”
