That thwack on Jordan Henderson’s knee late in the second half at Brighton & Hove Albion has officially been confirmed as the captain’s season ender. Liverpool will have to brave the remaining matches without Hendo screaming at everyone all the time, Jürgen Klopp revealed during his pre-Burnley press conference.
“Hendo is actually really the best possible of all the bad news,” said Klopp. “It is a knee injury, but no surgery needed.
“He will not play anymore in the latter stage of this season but I am pretty positive he will start with us the new season.
“We were all concerned in the moment we saw him in going down and when he left the pitch and stuff like this.
“Yesterday when we got the news, it was a big relief for all of us. It is not cool, obviously, but it is the best we could get.
“Hendo will be back; he is a quick healer and he will be back soon.”
Klopp does have plenty of excellent options in his squad to collect Henderson’s minutes. Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum could see a majority of Liverpool’s midfield. But Naby Keita is bounding into form through this restart. Curtis Jones is always rising in the manager’s mind. And Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are both in good shape, as well.
The captain has often proven himself critical to Klopp’s midfield. When he sits out, things don’t always run smoothly for the team on the pitch. Again, his screaming is an ever-present beacon. So, Peter Moore should be pumping recordings of Hendo screaming into Anfield for all of our remaining home fixtures. For the away ones, maybe some sort of bluetooth situation. Somebody let Peter know.
