Injury Update: Matip and Milner Edition

Aren’t you glad we’re back? Doesn’t this all feel familiar?

With our first game back comes our first post-match injury report in a while. The Everton game was a bit of a slog by the end, but it was made all the worse for the injuries that Joël Matip and James Milner sustained during the game. There’s still no definitive answer on how they’re doing (and won’t be until the medical team has a chance to examine them) but Klopp is hopeful about that neither injury is serious.

“Millie felt a hamstring a little bit, but we had this in the past,” Klopp said in his post-match press conference. “Millie is not often injured and hopefully it is not serious. He is smart enough to show up in the moment when he feels it, so hopefully it was the right moment.

“Maybe not Wednesday [he will be available for], but after that I would hope for,” Klopp added, when asked when he would expect Milner to be available for selection again.

“Joël was unlucky and we had to make a quick decision,” he said about Matip’s injury and substitution. “It was a situation with Richarlison and he bent or stretched or his big toe.

“I don’t think a lot of people have had that; it is really painful, but hopefully it settles, the pain settles and then we will see. I hope nothing serious has happened, but I don’t know yet.”

Having both Milner and Matip out is less than ideal, especially given Robertson appears to be suffering some sort of injury and Lovren was trying to compete with David Luiz for worst defender of the week. Hopefully neither injury is serious and we have both players available by Wednesday.
