Jamie Carragher Praises Liverpool’s Academy Talent

Ok, ok, everyone’s a bit annoyed at not getting Timo Werner. But worry not! Here come the greatest signings of all: academy players!

Ok, maybe you’re a bit underwhelmed by that.

But Jamie Carragher thinks they’re worth a go.

“If you look at the team that played at Aston Villa in the [Carabao] Cup and the team that beat Shrewsbury in the FA Cup, there are a few good prospects coming through,” the Evening Standard report Carragher as saying.

“The one that stands out for me is Neco Williams at right-back because there is no real understudy for [Trent] Alexander-Arnold.

“Having Williams means Klopp doesn’t really have to go into the market for a stand-in right-back. I can see Williams playing 10-15 games next season.

“Harvey Elliott has only just turned 17 and has already played in the first team. I couldn’t even get in the reserves at 16 – in fact I couldn’t get in the A-team. That shows the quality of the players who are coming through at Liverpool.”

“There’s other lads coming through, like James Norris, who I know Liverpool rate highly,” he added.

“Tom Hill is also in that category and a striker called Layton Stewart, who I have watched a lot because he’s in the same age group as my son.

“There is a group of players Liverpool have high hopes for and while it’s difficult to break into one of the best teams in the world, I think there are some talents in there who will make a name for themselves.”

With just two more wins needed to secure the Premier League title, we’re likely to see plenty of the kids in the remaining games. Does this excite you?
