Two weeks ago, we became more invested than we care to admit, as Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold saw off Manchester United and Manchester City en route to the final of the first ePremier League invitational.

Although Trent fell short at the final hurdle against Wolverhampton’s Diogo Jota, he gave a good account of himself along the way. He came from behind to best Raheem Sterling in the semifinal, and took Jota well into extra time before he was done in by a golden goal.

Now, it’s Jose Enrique’s chance to captivate captive audiences around the world, and hopefully do one better than Trent managed a fortnight ago. The former Liverpool defender will face off against Aston Villa’s young striker Keinan Davis in the Round of 16 matchup at 3 PM BST.

If Enrique can best Davis, there’s another potential Manchester City showdown in the cards: the winner of Liverpool vs. Villa will face the winner of Phil Foden vs. Burnley’s Charlie Taylor.

It’s not real football, but it’s the closest we can get for a while. And Enrique has always been an eminently likable character. Ultimately, injuries and severe illness greatly shortened his career, but maybe he can bring a little bit of joy to Liverpool country through this mess.
