Premier League Have Reportedly Ruled Out “Null and Void” Option

However the season ends, it will end with a result—and that’s good news for Liverpool.

Earlier today, reports the National League had met on Tuesday and agreed their best course of action could be to declare the season null and void left some Liverpool fans worried—or at the very least had some tabloids jumping at the chance to get them worried.

However, the fifth tier of English football deciding that it will wipe away the 2019-20 season should it not be able to be resumed in relatively short order does not reflect the thinking of the higher levels of the game, and most certainly not those of the Premier League.

This according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who says England’s top flight is in complete agreement that no matter how things progress from here when it comes to coronavirus and their hopes of re-starting the season, “null and void is completely off the table.”

The London football expert further said that while the particulars remain far from certain, there is still a “complete commitment” to playing out the season in some form at some stage—even if it pushes past July 1st, though the belief is that will not have to happen.

To that end, the PFA have reportedly come around on the idea of playing games behind closed doors once the virus has peaked but before it’s safe for large gatherings, which makes the idea of resuming play in the coming months far more viable.
