The Premier League Manager of the Month award has been awarded to Jürgen Klopp on eight occasions since he became the Liverpool boss in 2015. He has earned five of them this season. And one of them just now when Klopp was named January’s top manager in the league.

Other notable candidates for January’s top managerial honor were Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Ralph Hasenhüttl of Southampton and Watford’s Nigel Pearson.

Pearson lifted Watford for a few matches in January but they’ve lost their last two and remain in the relegation zone sandwiched between West Ham and Norwich City.

Pep came out of January with a 3-1-0 record, his perfect score unattainable due to a Fernandinho own goal against Crystal Palace that gifted the Eagles a point.

Hasenhüttl ended his January at Southampton with a 3-0-1 record, having beaten both Tottenham and Leicester City, given Wolves a run for their money before eventually losing 2-3, and then following it up with a 2-0 win at Palace on the 21st.

August, September, November and December’s trophies were also awarded to Klopp. The manager’s clean sweep was only interrupted in October by Chelsea’s Frank Lampard who was having a good month. But also, Liverpool drew with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, Oct. 20th, the only time the Reds have not taken all three points in the league.

Through January Klopp managed Liverpool to victories over Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United, pushing the Reds even farther up the table in this time. Liverpool now lead the Premier League by a whopping 22 points and could conceivably officially win it in March.
