Georginio Wijnaldum was one of Klopp’s early recruits to the team. He, like many of the other players brought in, was an early question mark and took some time to bed into the team. Now, however, the cheerful Dutchman is a mainstay in Liverpool’s undefeated midfield three.

While Wijnaldum doesn’t score the most goals, he has been known to pitch in on occasion, and Monday night saw him bag the opener against West Ham at Anfield. The rest of the match didn’t live up to that early moment of brilliance, but despite going behind to David Moyes’s men, the Reds managed to win the game and maintain their undefeated league record.

After the game, Gini spoke with the official site about the mentality of this team as they push for that coveted Premier League title.

“We just want to continue this run we’re in right now,” he said. “We know what we have to do, we don’t want to leave it with this, we just want to carry on and try to keep the good momentum.

”We work really hard for it and hopefully we can keep it until the end of the season.”

Wijnaldum is one of the players who has been with the team through Klopp’s rebuilding process, and he has some insight into how they have evolved over the seasons and how adversity and near-misses have all come together to make them the unstoppable force they are today.

“I also have to say we work really hard for that, to have it the way it is right now.

”If you go back a few years ago, we made mistakes. But we learned from the mistakes we made and I think that’s why we are so good right now – we have a team that has played with each other for a few years.

”During the years we learned a lot and that’s why we are so good right now.”

The best thing about this team is that you get the feeling that, despite how good they are right now, they’re not done yet. They still have room to improve, and it’s clear that this journey that the players and the fans have taken since Klopp arrived still has some twists and turns left in it. They have more hard work to do, but we get to sit back and enjoy the ride.
