Liverpool are close to getting two key cogs to their side back on the field. Sadio Mané And James Milner both joined in the training sessions today at Melwood as they work their way back from injuries.
James Milner has been out since early January after pulling his hamstring against Everton in the FA Cup. Milner’s absence has meant there has been no senior level cover for Andrew Robertson at left back. Milner took time during his recovery to train with, and provide his support to, the U23 side that defeated Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup Replay game last week.
Sadio Mané’s injury was thankfully less serious, and also happened to coincide with the first ever winter “break” in the Premier League. He missed two games, but appears ready to be in contention as Liverpool head to Norwich this weekend. In his absence, Mohamed Salah has stepped up his goal production, and took over the lead for top scorer on the team.
The return to fitness for Mané and Milner comes just ahead of the Champion’s League knockout stages commencing. Jurgen Klopp will have an almost full squad to choose from for the upcoming fixtures in the Premiere League, Champions League, and FA Cup. Xherdan Shaqiri remains the only senior team player who is not in training.
