Mohamed Salah has been very very good for a long-time now. It’s something we take for granted, but every once in a while, a statistic or two gets thrown our way to remind us just of just how great he has been since he made his move here from Rome.

After yet another typical breakaway goal in Liverpool FC’s 5-0 win over Atalanta BC, Mo is now level with Steven Gerrard as Liverpool’s highest scorer in the Champions League proper, excluding qualifiers. It was the Egyptian’s 21st strike in the tournament for the Mighty Reds. Naturally, he was delighted: (Quote from the club’s official website)

“Of course I’m very happy to be the highest one. Steven Gerrard is a legend for the club. It’s something I’m very proud of,” he said post-match.

But as I’ve said before, the most important thing is the team. So I’m happy to score goals to help the team to win games, that’s the most important thing.”

Speaking to UEFA, the Egyptian King was also asked if he was worried about competition within the attacking ranks with Jota’s hot form. Instead, he heaped praise on the hat-trick hero:

No, we are not worried. We are here to help each other. We are happy for him, and all of us are doing a great job - me, Sadio, Bobby, Div, Shaq, Taki, all of us - we are trying to help the team and when we play everyone gives 100% so we are happy for each other.
