Liverpool were, to put it politely, terrible at home to Atalanta in a 2-0 Champions League defeat.
It was obvious from the first minute with a number of sloppy defensive mistakes. Liverpool were very flat in attack, and downright calamitous in defence. It just didn’t happen at any point. It was a huge mess. No one could deny Atalanta deserved to take the 3 points, least of all the Liverpool manager.
”It was not a good game”, BBC Sport report Jürgen Klopp as saying. “From both teams, didn’t create a lot, until they scored the goals.
“A deserved defeat in a difficult game. The ref didn’t whistle a lot and that makes it even more difficult, for both sides. It was unbelievably intense and you need some breaks.
“When the first half is gone, you usually settle but for some players who didn’t play for a while it was very intense for them. We didn’t find a way in the game.
“Easier to talk about a good game. We had moments but not real chances. It could happen to other teams. You [BT Sport, UK broadcasters of tonight’s game and the weekend’s fixture] ask us to go Saturday at 12:30, which is nearly a crime. That is nothing to do with the result, but congratulations to you.
“Thumbs up, no injuries and we go again.”
Look, Liverpool were awful tonight. Terrible, horrible, no good, very bad game. Yuck. I just hope it can be brushed off quickly as an off night. Let’s forget this ever happened.
