Remember when Liverpool acquired Thiago Alcantara over the summer? Good times. The midfielder has been out of the team, first with the coronavirus and then due to a knee injury when the Reds took on their rowdy neighbors.
As Liverpool deal with their injury crisis, Thiago continues to work his way back into full match fitness.
According to Klopp, the player is “not too far” from returning to the team. However, if you hoped to see him in midweek against Atalanta, you’ll have to prepare for some disappointment.
Thiago has not yet resumed full team training, though he has been doing his own work at the AXA training facility.
“Thiago is not in team training yet,” Klopp said. “When will he be in team training? I don’t know. We will see. I’m as surprised as the public. In the morning I come in, we have a medical meeting and they tell me ‘yes he is in, he is not’. I know it’s not too far anymore (for Thiago), but I have no idea.”
Liverpool have yet to concede a goal to their Champions League group rivals, and they’ll look to continue that trend on Wednesday. Though they are missing several key first team players, including Thiago, they managed to keep a clean sheet against Leicester City on Sunday.
