A lot has been made of the spate of seven or so injuries to the first-team men’s squad that Liverpool has had to endure in recent weeks. Despite that we are top of the Premier League table and top of our Champions League group as well.
To add to the positivity and also reduce the injury burden, Joel Matip, Naby Keita, Kostas Tsimikas and Billy Koumetio have returned to full training at Melwood with the squad, Jurgen Klopp confirmed.
While Matip, Keita, Tsimikas and Koumetio joined their teammates for training at Melwood, Thiago Alcantara did not join them, and is still following an individual training program to recover from the challenge he received from Richarlison during the Merseyside derby.
Whether the recovered players will feature in the mid-week Champions League group stage tie against Atalanta BC is yet to be determined.
“Naby and Joel trained yesterday with the team, full, Thiago didn’t. So, that’s the situation”, Klopp said.
“I have really no idea what I do with this information in the moment because yes, they trained, that’s good, it’s better than if they don’t train. But we have to see what we do with it.
“We have another day to make these decisions. A lot of players will be on the plane hopefully, and so decisions will be made late, late, late.”
