It’s been a tumultuous few weeks for Liverpool substitute keeper Adrian who, for the second season in a row, finds himself given a lengthy run of games due to an injury to Alisson. His first two matches were not ones he’ll want to remember, but on Wednesday, the team got a much needed morale boost from an away win against Ajax.
The plaudits from that game were largely for Fabinho, who has stepped into van Dijk’s place admirably. Adrian agrees.
“I was expecting that performance from Fabi,” he told the official site. “He’s a top player, top players adapt to the position. It’s not a new thing for him because he played before in that position last season, even at Monaco [he] played a few times in that position. He has enough quality to play there.”
After that 1-0 win in Amsterdam, it’s a quick turnaround for the Reds to play against Sheffield United this evening at Anfield.
“[Sheffield United are] going to be tough. It’s a hard team, they defend really well, tight, compact and a bit deep sometimes. They are quick, they are using a lot at set-pieces, they have pace and intensity. So I think it’s going to be an intense game. We have to back our way, [give] the best Liverpool FC performance again and show that we overcome those difficult situations that are around us and keep getting points,” Adrian said.
The Reds picked up as many long term injuries as they did points in the last two league games. A win against Sheffield United at home would do a lot to get the team back on track as we edge closer to the festive period.
