The Guinean national team has today announced that their planned international friendly against Gambia set to take place this evening in Portugal has been cancelled due to a large number of positive tests for coronavirus leaving them unable to name a full squad.

Such is the current state of the team that the Fédération Guinéenne de Football say that at the moment they could not even field a full 11 players, with just eight outfielders and one goalkeeper in the squad not having returned a positive test in recent days.

Over the weekend, reports out of Guinea suggested that Liverpool midfielder Naby Keïta was amongst five national team players who had tested positive. While there has been no official confirmation of his status, the total numbers have clearly increased since then.

At the time of the initial reports of positive tests, there were further suggestions that the Guinean national team had not been fully adhering to coronavirus protocols while in Faro for their friendly against Cape Verde that took place on Saturday.
