Liverpool won fairly comfortably against West Ham, with goals from a Mohamed Salah penalty and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. There were, however, moments of less control, when the side needed to rely on good goalkeeping from Alisson. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was quite honest about the game.
“I’m only happy about the three points,” BBC Sport report him as saying. “We could have done a lot of things better. We could have passed better and defended better.
”These boys have played outstanding football throughout the season. Tonight was a normal performance.
“We could have done a lot of things better but there was only one team who deserved to win.
”We could have passed better, defended better. Who cares? These players played outstanding football so often, it was a normal performance.
”We never had 100% rhythm, it is tough to play against such a defensive-orientated team.”
Speaking of the fans’ talk of winning the league, Klopp claimed that “they can sing whatever they want. Singing it doesn’t mean you are it.
“We don’t feel like it is already done. I promise.”
He’s right on both counts. He’s right that Liverpool weren’t at there fluent best tonight, but that’s simply how it is in football sometimes. The best teams win those games.
And he’s right that he and his players can’t celebrate yet. We here, however, are having the time of our lives.
